October 14, 2021 – the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit, Graduate School of Business (GSB), Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA), Manila, together with its partner, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) celebrated the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) which coincided with the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management (ADDM).<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Tabassam Raza delivered a lecture on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in the Local Development Planning Process on the second day of the 3-day celebration. The lecture was very well received by participants including officers and heads from different departments such as OCD, DepEd, DRRMO, and COA. The lecture touched on fundamental aspects around development sectors and how DRR & CCA can be mainstreamed at the barangay level using the model developed and presented by Prof. Dr. Raza.<\/p>\n

H.E. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Kazi, Amb. of Pakistan to the Philippines also attended the event as an observer. He provided his valuable thoughts on International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction and emphasized the contribution of Office of Civil Defense in nourishing the Disaster Risk Management leaders, planners and direct and indirect stakeholders. He praised the pro-active approach adopted by the Philippine Government towards Disaster Risk Management in terms of the milestone Republic Act 10121; Philippine Disaster Reduction and Management Act. He finally extended his gratitude to Office of Civil Defense for having invited him to the event. Students from PSBA, University of the Philippines School of Urban and Regional Planning (UP SURP), University of Engineering (UE), Lahore, Pakistan and PSBA-Manila were also among those who attended the event as observers.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s celebration served as an opportunity to acknowledge the progress being made toward reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health. The 2021 edition focused on \u201cInternational cooperation for developing countries to reduce their disaster risk and disaster losses.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the sixth of the Sendai Seven targets.<\/p>\n
