August 25, 2018, the Graduate School of Business (GSB) of the Philippine School of Business Administration \u2013 Manila, (PSBA-Manila) conducted its 2018 Research Methodology Seminar at the GSB room of PSBA-Manila, Sampaloc, Manila. The program starts at 9:00 am with an opening prayer led by Mr. Paul Michael Dungo<\/strong>, President of the Graduate School of Business Student Association (GSBSA), follow by his opening remarks.<\/p>\n

After the opening remarks, Mr. Dungo introduced Dr. Tabassam Raza<\/strong>, the Associate Dean of GSB and Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit Director for his welcome address. Dr. Raza emphasized that the seminar is very important and helpful for current and future Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) students for their dissertation and for Master in Business Administration (MBA) students who enrolled in program with thesis writing. He mentions the tagline the he crafted on this research seminar, the \u201cNO PROBLEM NO SOLUTION\u201d. He stresses that you must first clearly understand the real problem before coming up with its detailed solution for any study.<\/p>\n

Mr. Bo Ngoc Bui<\/strong>, MBA student, presented his study entitled \u201cThe Impact of TV Advertisement of Five Leading Fast Food Chains on Children\u2019s wants. Parents point of view Pasig City\u201d during the seminar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThesis Statement of the Problem\u201d<\/strong><\/h5>\n

After Mr. Bui presentation, Dr. Jose Teodorico V. Molina<\/strong>, Faculty member of GSB, discussed about the thesis statement of the problem. He clarifies that a student who is doing a research study should first identify the specific problems of the study. First, he cited an example on the current Philippine Government Administration wherein corruption is the problem caused by political dynasties, and that Federal Government is the proposed solution. Next, he traffic issues as a problem and asked if digging more roads or by constructing more MRT\/LRT stations are right solutions.<\/p>\n

Dr. Molina, also talked about the methodology and approaches on how to gather pertinent data, a real subject matter of the study, and the resources that you can use during the study. He explains that these are the things you need to understand and prepare before formulating your study.<\/p>\n

After the break, Dr. Raza, talked about statistical tools for thesis and dissertation writing.<\/p>\n

\u201cStatistical Tools for Thesis and Dissertation Writing\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Raza <\/strong>started by informing the participants that there are two ways of crafting the statement of the problem: descriptive or narrative form. He called on Mr. Francis Castil, a DBA student, to explain what is narrative form.<\/p>\n

Mr. Castil explained that narrative form is \u201clike you are telling a story to your reader in constructive, easy, and understandable way, and that also dictate the entire research study. Also, it could give an idea and get attention of your reader about your study\u201d.<\/p>\n

Further, Dr. Raza suggested about the significance of the study of Mr. Bui’s research and that it should be part of the subject matter. In addition, Dr. Raza mentioned that the statement of the problem should clearly define your target, such as specific range of ages if you refer to children or specific name of burgers if your study is about different kind of burgers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
